Leveraging TMS Tools - July 24, 2009
In response to the growing realization of the impact of transportation on overall supply chain effectiveness, adoption of Transportation Management Systems (TMS) has increased markedly in recent years. It's no wonder. Capabilities enabled by many TMS tools, including transportation sourcing, requirements forecasting, total cost management, and shipment visibility provide a compelling business case for many firms. But as with any technology, the promise depends on the practice. This meeting explored how companies who have implemented a TMS tool are getting the most from it today - and how they hope to derive even more value in the future. Designed for both TMS veterans and those considering a TMS tool, the discussion provided a valuable opportunity for TMS users to compare notes on current practices that have had the most impact and for companies interested in TMS to learn from the experiences of others currently benefiting from a TMS tool. |

Managing Transportation in an Environment of High Fuel-Cost Volatility - March 27, 2009
Although fuel prices have receded from the record highs of mid-2008, a chorus of experts believes that oil prices will spike again in the not too distant future perhaps yet in 2009. This time around, however, the financial impact of higher transportation costs will likely be more acute for firms that have seen business conditions deteriorate in the current economic recession. Given this recent experience, corporate senior management is more aware than ever before of transportation-cost impact on the bottom line and will look to their logistics experts to develop and implement strategies to mitigate the risk of transportation cost spikes in the future. At this meeting, members will share and discuss their learnings from the recent run-up in transportation costs, and the strategies they will use to manage their exposure going forward. |

Transportation Management Leading Practices - August 26, 2005
Transportation services cost companies more than $636 billion in 2004. Managing the transportation needs of your organization has never been more important. Given the lack of available resources, transportation carriers currently have the upper hand in dictating rates and availability. Therefore, it is paramount that shippers work hard to become more carrier-friendly in order to control costs and garner capacity. |
